Jet2 (a.k.a. Jet2.com) is a British airline based in Leeds, England. They offer cheap and reasonable fares to forty different European destinations. This small company began operations in 1978 (under the name Channel Express Air Services) and has been providing safe and reliable service ever since. They began as primarily a freight delivery service, but in 2001 the company expanded its service range and began to have passenger routes as well. Jet2 is a subsidiary of the Dart Group PLC. The primary aircraft used in their fleet are the Boeing 737-300’s; however, they have used Boeing 757-200’s to augment their service from time to time. They operate from five main United Kingdom hubs located at various major airports, but their main operation is based at Leeds Bradford International Airport. They hold a Type A license issued by the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority. This authorizes them to haul cargo and mail on aircraft with twenty seats or more. As with all low cost carriers, fares may only be purchased over the telephone or using the Internet. Dart Group has also started a second subsidiary known as Jet2holidays.com This group offers flight packages for a vacation get-away to Spain, The Canary Islands, and Crete in Greece. These services were first offered in May, 2008. Jet2holidays.com intends to continue offering these for quite some time in the foreseeable future. Another feature the Dart Group added to their airlines in May 2008 was to begin offering service to New York during the months of November and December to meet the need of the Thanksgiving and Christmas travelers. Jet2.com is another small company on the rise to look out for. Since they began hauling passengers in 2001 their growth has really took off (pun unintentional). Their inaugural year as a passenger carrier showed them taking on just above half a million passengers. However; this past year they delivered close to four million passengers safely to their destinations. I’d venture to say that their growth in passenger quantity is due to their fleet as well as their maintenance staff. Jet2.com has a well-maintained fleet of jets that is less than twenty-five years old. During the course of my research I could find no record of any accidents for Jet2.com. I would speculate that being they are one of the airlines contracted to carry mail they keep their fleet to a higher standard than many airlines do. They keep only the best, because whether it’s the mail or a parcel or people – Jet2.com shows they are serious about what they do. With a record like that and a good reputation it’s no wonder Jet2.com is doing so well.
